After his loss on Tuesday of that week, the funeral and visiation were held on Thursday and Wednesday, respectively, Dungy made it back for The Colts 14th game of the season that week, and had already clinched the first round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. He was asked to stay home during that week but insisted that he stay with his team during this emotional and special season. His team would continue into the playoffs at 14-2 and with the first round bye, would win the second game of the playoffs, consequently springing them into the Conference championship against the New England Patriots at home.
The win at home in the second round really propelled the teams emotions and following his loss all the fans around the NFL really felt liek it was not only the year of the Colts but the year for Tony Dungy to overcome his loss and win his first super bowl.
